4 Points Builds a STAR is a comprehensive trauma-informed training that provides an understanding of trauma and the impact that it has on individuals. The active ingredient in the STAR building program is its emphasis on full engagement. This involves both building human adaptability and teaching the skills required to promote resilience. For those who serve populations that struggle with post-traumatic stress, this is an invaluable training.

I participated in the 4 Points Builds a STAR 2-day seminar as I am myself opening a veteran reintegration program. I have done research and attended other training courses but have never experienced anything like this one. I was particularly interested in how the body stores trauma, sometimes from early childhood, and finding ways to cope with that.

Many veterans I've interviewed suffered some sort of trauma prior to joining the military, so the comprehensive training that explains how adversity impacts each period of our life was insightful. On the second day, when we focused on the 4 points of engagement and were introduced to the trauma-informed principles, they made perfect sense. I enjoyed how the training left room for activities and discussion. The participants themselves felt safe enough to personally share their own experiences and insights, many of whom are counselors.

This structure created an engaging environment and even helped build rapport between the folks that attended. Having trainers that have themselves been in the trenches and worked with various populations, they were able to provide interesting input and stories based on their own failures and triumphs. I am actually integrating the 4 Point Builds a STAR training into my own program, War Horse Creek, an equine-assisted program for veterans.

The 4 Points Builds a STAR program is a great way to learn about Trauma-Informed Care in a fundamental and engaging way. Here in San Francisco, we strive to educate our direct service providers to equip them for the important work they do. This training program was helpful in getting our Outreach Team confident in their day-to-day approaches, and allowed space for their own professional and personal growth.

We had the privilege of hosting a training session with Shad Meshad from the National Veterans Foundation and Melinda Meshad from Trauma Informed Consulting. They provided invaluable insights into trauma and how to better connect with veterans.

Their approach was both engaging and informative, making complex topics accessible and relevant to our team. Shad and Melinda tailored their training specifically to fit our organization's needs and went above and beyond to support us, demonstrating a genuine commitment to our success.

We highly recommend their training for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of trauma and veteran-related issues.
